Another blow glanced off the warrior’s gleaming armor as they waded through the battlefield. They had already taken a myriad of devastating blows, but all had been rebuffed by the resplendent mythril plate they wore.

Powerful metallurgy was required to craft these great relics. These red dice may look like some fantastical and mythical alloy, but are light as a sunbeam dancing on the leaves. The black ink provides a sharp, distinct contrast, making them particularly readable. These mythril treasures are the perfect addition to every dragon’s dice hoard, and they sure to roll true again and again.

I'll start by saying that these dice do not disappoint looks-wise. The metallic effect catches the light from all angles like a slice of meteoric iron, almost seeming to glow. They've also got a shiny surface texture -- not quite smooth like glass, closer to I'd say a layer of nail polish. The edges are precise and sharp in a way which looks great. They feel light in the hand, as DHD's polymer dice all tend to, and the sharp corners mean they tend to stop rolling quick, but that's not bad, merely stylistic.

There are some tiny imperfections here and there: a parting line on one of the blunted corners of the D8, some paint spotting, a couple minor blemishes on the 3 face of the d20. There's only one that really impacts the overall look from any kind of distance, that being a chip out of a corner of the D6. That's what knocks a 5th star off for me, but only just.

For any other dice company, I'd say "oh well" and have to deal with that chipped D6, but if you've shopped with DHD before, you know their customer service is legendary, so I have no worries about possibly getting a replacement D6 tossed in with my next order (which there absolutely will be) -- and as for the other little things, they really are *little*, to the point where I don't feel the need to do anything about them. One big benefit of the textured metallic pattern on these things is that from any kind of distance (more than a few inches), little blemishes or paint spots or what-have-you all fade into the look of the dice.

As an aside, I had the set shipped solo, and unfortunately one of the latches of the clear plastic box it came in cracked in transit and made it unusable -- almost certainly down to the rigors of travel rather than anything on Die Hard's end, but something I wanted to at least mention for the wholeness of the review. I'll also say that they threw in a metal d20 as a freebie (in matching red, even) which will absolutely be getting use alongside this set.

Overall, I think the Mythril line -- and Soulscorcher in particular -- are well worth the coin, even with those teeny imperfections here and there. They're really like nothing else out there.

I hadn't played D&D since 1984. Now my son-in-law has started a new and first campaign. A couple times a month I am gaming with him and my daughter and my son and 3 others. The rules have changed and there is an app, but nothing beats rolling dice. My Mountain Dwarf Barbarian is using an enchanted great axe that among other wonders does respectable fire damage.
The Soul Scorcher set is FIRE ! Thanks for a job well done, and I geeked out a little on the post card as well, not to mention the steel bonus D6. Keep up the good work. Once upon a time in 1983 I killed Orcus in the prime material and ethereal plane. They talked about if for years.....
